The advert, known as The Beginner, is aimed at spreading awareness of the care system.

Retailer John Lewis has made a long-term commitment to supporting the community, with an aim to become the number one employer of choice for care experienced young adults.

How much did John Lewis spend on this year’s adverts?

John Lewis hasn’t said how much this year’s advert costs - as it never usually confirms what it has spent.

In previous years, it was thought to have spent around £1million on the cost of making the 90-second clip, including the concept, filming, actors, staff, locations and any editing.

In addition, John Lewis is rumoured to have spent between £5million and £6million promoting it - with most of the money going on TV slots.

This year, John Lewis bosses said that they have been “more cost conscious”; due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.

They chose to film the ad in the UK, using British actors and not big name celebs and the song artist is a relatively unknown US singer.

All these choices were made to keep costs down.

However, they did acknowledge that the cost of media advertising is going up, which makes it more expensive to promote the ad.

Last year, the retailer was rumoured to spend £800,000 on making the ad and then £5million on promoting it.

The retailer has been teasing viewers this week about the ad.

It changed its logo to include a skateboard and yesterday it released a teaser about the ad .
